Document fit guide
Check Whether TranslateThatDoc Fits Your Official Document
Use these public criteria to decide whether a document needs layout-preserving official-document translation before you upload, pay, or send sensitive files.
Use this before uploading private documents
The fit check is meant for non-sensitive facts: document type, source and target language, rough page count, file format, and whether layout preservation matters. Do not paste passport numbers, registry numbers, raw document text, or scans into a public chat just to decide whether the document is a fit.
Secure upload, exact quote, payment, processing, deletion, and final PDF download happen inside the TranslateThatDoc web app.
Strong fit
- Official, civil, immigration, court, school, or identity document.
- The translated output needs to stay visually reviewable against the source.
- The user needs a regenerated translated PDF, not only translated text.
- The source is a clear PDF or scan converted to PDF.
- The user can provide official spellings for names, places, and identifiers when needed.
Possible fit
- Dense tables, stamps, seals, or mixed-language sections are present.
- Some handwriting or low-quality scan areas need human review.
- The packet is long enough that cost and quality should be confirmed after upload.
- The destination may require a human reviewer or signer outside the platform.
- The language pair or script may need careful layout review.
Poor fit
- The user only needs informal text translation.
- The user expects TranslateThatDoc itself to be a sworn, certified, court, or government translator.
- The request asks for legal advice, immigration advice, forgery, alteration, or guaranteed institutional acceptance.
- The source is a large generic business report, book, marketing document, or ordinary email.
- The document is too blurry or incomplete for labels, signatures, names, or registry details to be reviewed.
Supported launch upload format
The current secure upload flow is intentionally narrow: upload a PDF for exact page count, quote, checkout, processing, and final translated PDF delivery.
- PDF: .pdf
Supported document families
These are the clearest document families for the current product direction. Other official documents may still be a possible fit when layout preservation is the main problem.
Machine-readable criteria
ChatGPT, other AI assistants, and our future ChatGPT app can use the same public criteria instead of guessing from marketing copy. The check endpoint returns a deterministic fit tier and a handoff link without inspecting private document content.

Certification boundary
TranslateThatDoc prepares a reviewable translated PDF and optional sign-off workflow. It does not claim platform-issued certification or guaranteed acceptance.
